The highway of life was recorded in July of 2021 with additional layers like acoustic percussion added throughout the summer and fall of 2022. There was a stretch of time between Matt losing his laptop to old age in the summer of 2021 and acquiring a new one in April of 2022, which in a sense buried this track in the cloud and later recovered and brought to it's full light with the band as a relic of that summer of 2021.
lyrics
Peering through the keyholes of these eyes
I was tryna catch a glimpse into yours
I’m so lost in this fantasy, probably won’t escape before this dream ends
In rooms from doors through death,
What’ll it take to make you feel like I am all you need?
Things keep tryna change back to reality,
the days pass between us unaccounted for.
Just beneath the mask of this poetry,
I’m at the theatre’s projector, I’m tryna come through the film
Gears and clockwork mazes,
The hallways change direction as the tape plays
Each time I thought that I’d caught you,
It was just another message left on your machine
How am I supposed to get through to you anyway anyway these days?
Cruisin down the highway of life,
babe I’d like to push this 95. (9-5)
Fallin off the cliffs of our thoughts
and can we please hang out here for a while?
There’s no turning back now,
it would be the same distance anyhow
When that oozing feeling calls from down the road,
we’ll be gone before the sun comes around.
Tear up the map.
We will glue it back together if we need help getting lost
Feel that breeze blowing on our faces and nothing can set me off
Trust this process. Trust me until I die. Trust your spark for a fire.
Hit that gas, baby don’t look back. Don’t let the promises become more lies
Chilling out on some greener grass, there’s no need for speed or cash
Falling off the map, we had everything we needed so fast that I just fuckin laugh
Headed out of town to breathe some fresher air,
I really think we need some self care
Manmade time has killed me enough.
There’s no more deadlines I just grid.
And it goes like this.
