Backroads concludes Love War with it also being the most recent song written with Ian accompanying the track with Piano. Backroads was written during the fall of 2022 following a period of isolation and reflection upon a year filled with some grief, lessons and obstacles. Aligning any amount of time, money for creative projects is not supported very well by the world we live in. Backroads speaks on our undying drive to keep this all going, the local art scene, our own music and hopefully the music of other unknown bands as we continue to learn . We still rage against that dying light. We hope you enjoyed this work and please be sure to stay tuned for all the songs not yet completed. Never die with your songs still inside you.
lyrics
Before the sands from the deserts we crossed
fell from the hourglass
With heart, we lived again, smiled again
and treasured it to the last
If only briefly, we climbed from graves to write songs
To taste the gardens we built with dirt and hope
May the back roads connect us again in another life
May the cars and music draw us to dawns doused in sleep deprivation
This is growing up, and growing old
Still young enough to kiss with saliva
To take life by the steering wheel,
Dig that moment like a grave
And sink our teeth into the final words
That we exchange
Oh, that was youth. That was our youth - We had it for a while
Like the bodies of our cars
We totaled in style
Crucial heartbeats spent together
Blown like dynamite
It was worth it just to get to go
And see those sights
We found friendships and hidden gems
And though they didn’t hold us for very long
We forgave them and moved onwards headstrong
The gravity of their life still takes my breath away
And as my body moves so much deeper
As my soul awakens from this sleep
As if wishing we were never born
Could take away the memories I’d kill to keep
As if the pages that I’ve written
Weren’t worth the nights I didn’t sleep
As if the days weren’t trap doors
That we pulled the levers to - to miss the peaks
Oh, that was youth. That was our youth,
The realizations we reap
And the walls that keep us from happiness
HAVE GrowN taller and taller
We’re now shooting stars
With no end in sight
Still rage against that dying light
The hearts that I have loved
In coffins now, all piled up
Still rage against that dying light
We still rage against that dying light
